As a region we are lucky to have a number of amazing birthing units! However to continue flourishing they need our support.
These birthing units are staffed by great midwives who support primary birthing. They are happy to welcome you and show you around and will also be able to provide a second opinion or support if needed when you are supporting someone in labour.
Some also have antenatal clinics you can use and run education sessions.
Waimarino Health Centre is a midwifery led unit. The unit is situated in Raetihi and women can labour and birth but there is no postnatal stay.

Otaihape is a midwifery led unit where women can birth their babies and stay postnatally.

This primary unit is located at Levin and is a midwifery led unit. The facility is a Mid Central DHB facility and women can labour, birth and stay in the postnatal period.

This is a midwifery led unit situated in Dannevirke. The unit is co-located within the hospital where there is also a medical team working. Women can labour, birth and stay in their postnatal period.

The newly build birthing unit, established in 2016 is a primary birthing unit where women with no complications or risks can birth. The name Waioha relates to Wairua, which is the soul or spirit of someone and is the greatest gift in all creation, breathing new life.

Wairoa Maternity Unit is a small rural birthing and postnatal facility that is managed by the Hawkes Bay District Health Board. This unit is a midwifery led primary unit.
